Behind the scenes of production travel.

The domino effect in travel delays in production

After 20 years of working in various different sectors of the travel industry I can say without fail that TV and production travel is by far the most niche. There are so many elements that I would never have considered before working with this type of client. Without precise planning and expertise many issues can cause a ‘domino effect.’

One small travel issue can derail an entire production schedule, which is why it’s so important to have a solid travel plan in place. When travel planning is rushed or simply an afterthought suddenly a ‘travel issue’ can become a production issue. I feel what many people underestimate is that travel isn’t simply getting a person or team from A to B. It’s knitting together a seamless process incorporating flights, transfers, accommodation, transportation or kit, having correct documentation for all DGR and equipment. You need to be able to trust that the team taking care of your travel know exactly what they’re doing.

If travel isn’t effectively planned then things rarely fail all at once. They fail one small piece at a time. And once the first domino falls, stopping the rest is expensive. Travel quite honestly can make or break an entire shoot.
